Morgantown Surgical Associates, Inc. (MSA) provides comprehensive general, thoracic, and vascular surgical care for North Central West Virginia.
Located in Morgantown, West Virginia, and incorporated in 1977 by Dr. Jerome G. Johnson, MSA now consists of two board certified general surgeons, a gastroenterologist, a doctor of osteopathic medicine and a nurse practitioner. From the beginning, MSA has set high standards as a community-based private practice with a tradition of excellent patient care and satisfaction. That tradition has remained and flourished throughout many changes in medicine and surgical techniques.
MSA performs laparoscopic and open procedures for hernia repairs, appendectomies, gallbladder disease, and diseases of the colon. MSA also performs arterial reconstructive surgery for abdominal aortic aneurysms and vascular insufficiencies of the legs and arms as well as lumpectomies and mastectomies for the removal of breast disease or breast cancer.
Today, Morgantown Surgical Associates doctors continue to be on the leading edge of technology with the recent introduction of stereotactic non-invasive breast biopsies and sentinel lymph node biopsies. MSA uses video-assisted equipment for performing thoracoscopies on certain lung procedures and laparoscopic nissen fundoplication to treat gastroesophageal reflux diseases.
Laparoscopic surgery advances along with better anesthesia and better surgical materials have evolutionized surgery to the benefit of the patient in shorter hospital stays, less pain, smaller incisions, and shorter recovery time.
